Pozze Smeraldine
Tramonti di Sopra (Udine), Italy
  • Natural Pool

The Pozze Smeraldine are a wonderful spot to spend a summer day making a barbecue, sunbathing and cooling off in the waters of the stream. When not crowded, this place is heaven on earth and brings the mind to Caribbean scenery. The emerald color of the waters, the white of the rocks and the intense green all around create a suitable environment to regenerate and feel at peace with the world.
There are also small beaches where to lay out the towel, boulders from which to dive, shallow pools for children and very deep for daredevils, and there are waterfalls. It is undoubtedly a charming, magical, energetic place and above all it is perfect for everyone.

If you want to relax here a whole day, bring both packed food and drinks. There are open areas of grass that also allow you to install a portable bbq. The use of reef shoes is strongly recommended to avoid getting hurt among the rocks especially in the water. Crossing the Meduna torrent you can reach the higher Pozze and enjoy the sun until sunset. In summer, on weekends, unfortunately the place gets crowded. To fully enjoy their beauty, if you can, visit the Smeraldine Pools during the week.

The downhill parts of the path to reach the puddles can be uncomfortable and at times dangerous, especially for children and the elderly, due to flat sloping pebbles, which can move when stepped on and make you lose balance.
The water is very cold even in summer, so watch out for congestion and cramps.
If you are thirsty, do not drink from the source on the path, you may regret the next day (nausea, dysentery, cramps).

How to reach

The Pozze Smeraldine are located in Italy, in the Friulian Dolomites natural park about an hour from Udine. They are a short walk from the inhabited village of Tramonti di Sopra and are accessed via a path that descends near the Agriturismo Borgo Titol. Once in Tramonti di Sopra the place is well marked at the entrance of the town. You can park with ease, and on foot you reach the Frasseneit path that leads to the Cà Selva lake (another magnificent little place). After about 15 minutes of walking you reach the Pozze Smeraldine; during the walk you can appreciate the breathtaking view and the view from the top of the stream.
